Fundraising

How much does Scouting cost? Like many other programs there are costs associated with Cub Scouts. Pack 101 charges dues of $75 per Scout per year.   The dues however represent less than half of what our pack actually spends on our Scouts over the course of the year.  In order to defray these costs and help keep scouting affordable, our pack participates in the Trails End popcorn sale and sells Christmas wreathes.  Scouts who participate in these programs have the ability to pay for the cost of the program while earning prizes for themselves.  For the 2015-2016 year each scout that participates in the popcorn and/or wreath fundraiser will have 10% of their sales go into an individual scout account.   Information regarding the scout accounts is available in the parent handbook.  The remaining proceeds go into the general pack fund.  These fundraisers have traditionally generated the funds needed to pay for cabin rentals for our fall camp out, derby kits, awards and advancement for our scouts and other costs incurred in running an active pack.

Popcorn

The Trails End Popcorn fundraiser serves the dual purpose of helping raise money to fund the programs our pack and the Twin Rivers Council sponsor.  In the past our pack's popcorn sales consisted of selling popcorn by taking orders, collecting payment and then delivering popcorn when the pack's order is filled (usually in November).  Often times a small number of our scouts raised the majority of our fundraising. This year in an attempt to level the playing field and give everyone a chance to reach their fund raising goals we are also selling popcorn at show-n-sell events.

A show-n-sell event is usually at a business, church or community event where Scouts (along with some parents) sell popcorn at a table.  Scouts sign up to work one hour shifts.  We keep track of the sales from each event along with the names of the scouts who worked and the number of shifts worked. At the end of the popcorn fundraiser we figure average sales per hour and  each boy gets credit for the number of shifts they worked.  This ensures that everyone's hard work is recognized in an equitable manner and is keeping with the Cub Scout Motto of "Do Your Best"  Show-n-sell totals are added to the Scout's other popcorn sales.
